Call for Contributions: Sustainable Cooling in Cities – Policy Workshop – Cork, Ireland, 28 October 2026
As part of IEA EBC Annex 97 – Sustainable Cooling in Cities, a workshop will be held on 28 October 2026 in Cork, Ireland, in collaboration with venticool and AIVC. The event will bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders to discuss sustainable cooling, overheating risks, environmental quality, and climate-resilient built environments.
The workshop will be organised in two complementary sessions:
Morning Session (09:00–12:00): Indoor Environment
The morning programme will focus on topics related to the indoor environment, including:
- Indoor overheating
- Thermal comfort
- Indoor environmental quality (IEQ)
- Resilient cooling strategies
- Related work from initiatives such as IEA EBC Annex 80
The main geographical and climatic interest of this session is on temperate climates, corresponding to Köppen-Geiger climate group C, including the subtypes Csa, Csb, Csc, Cfa, Cfb, Cfc, Cwa, Cwb, and Cwc. Contributions addressing Mediterranean, oceanic, humid subtropical, and temperate highland contexts are particularly welcome.
Afternoon Session (13:00–16:00): Outdoor Environment
The afternoon programme will primarily feature contributions from IEA EBC Annex 97 participants and will address topics such as:
- Urban heat mitigation
- Outdoor thermal comfort
- Public space design
- Nature-based cooling solutions
- Local climate adaptation
- Policy development and implementation
Call for Presentations
We are currently inviting expressions of interest from colleagues interested in delivering a short presentation (approximately 15 minutes). Contributions may cover:
- Research results
- City or regional case studies
- Policy experiences
- Design approaches
- Modelling and monitoring tools
- Standards
- Practical implementation challenges
